Life lessons from Maa Durga in today's testing times!

A city illuminated with Navratri lights, filled with devotees chanting ‘Jai Maa Durga’ in celebration.

It is that time of the year when chants of 'Jai Mata Di' or 'Jai Maa Durga' resonate in the entire atmosphere. The holy name of the Goddess can be heard in every nook and corner of the city, as the nation is gripped in celebrating the 9-day long festival of Navratri and Durga Puja. In this article, let’s learn life lessons from this invincible Goddess.

1.    🛡 Be fearless

Goddess Durga stands firm in a stormy landscape, her eyes calm and fearless, dispelling darkness.
Fearlessness begins within. Maa Durga teaches us to stand strong in every storm. 💪

Durga is derived from the word Durgam, which means fearlessness. Goddess Durga teaches us to remain true to our convictions in any situation and gain inner strength. Stronger we are from the inside, the more fearless we are perceived from the outside.

2.     🔄 Be Adaptable

Nine forms of Durga arranged in a radiant circle, each with unique posture and expression.
Leadership means adapting with grace. Maa Durga’s nine avatars show us how. 🔄

Goddess Durga has nine different avatars (forms) which are worshiped during the nine days of Navratri. This is a lesson for people in leadership roles – be ready to lead different situations in different ways. Be yourself but, adapt your posture, style, tone, manner and involvement according to the situation.

3.     Be Powerful

True power lies in vigilance and resolve. Maa Durga’s strength is quiet, steady, and unstoppable. ⚡

Determination and perseverance are attributes of Durga. Her strength lies not in wielding a sword and abolishing demons, but also in her vigilance.

4.     🌿 Be Hardworking

Brahmacharini sits in deep penance under a celestial tree, surrounded by nature’s offerings.
Devotion takes time. Maa Brahmacharini’s journey reminds us that perseverance bears divine fruit. 🌿

Durga’s manifestation as Brahmacharini patiently went through years of penance to marry Lord Shiva. For thousands of years, she ate fruits and flowers. After that, for a hundred more years she ate only vegetables, followed by eating fallen leaves for three thousand years. Finally, she continued her penance without food and water. Seeing this devotion, Lord Brahma blessed her that she would have Lord Shiva as her husband.

5.     🗡Be Helpful

Chamunda avatar of Durga defeats Chanda-Munda in a cosmic battle, restoring peace.
Help when it matters most. Maa Durga’s courage brings harmony to the heavens. 🗡️

Maa Durga never refrained from helping others. She destroyed the evil Chanda-Munda who created chaos in Devlok, hence she was called Chamunda

6.     🦁 Be Strong

Durga rides a lion across rugged terrain, her posture calm and commanding.
Strength is facing fear and riding it forward. Maa Durga shows us how. 🦁

Goddess Durga rides on a Lion, which shows overcoming fears and turning them into your strength. This is what real power is.

7.     💖 Spread love

Mother Durga blesses children and villagers with warmth and compassion in a serene setting.
Love is the greatest offering. Maa Durga’s motherly grace reminds us to care deeply. 💖

Goddess Durga in her mother avatar is an epitome of love and affection. While the world is filled with hatred, we must not forget to spread the love around us. Helping the needy and living a healthy life should be our motto. Look up to Maa Durga for blessing you and your loved ones. Spread love no hate.

8.     🚩 Leadership is gender independent

Goddess Durga confronts Mahishasura while male deities watch in reverence.
When all else failed, she rose. Leadership knows no gender. Jai Maa Durga! 🚩

Lastly, but most importantly, remember - When all other powerful Gods failed to stop the unstoppable demon Mahishasura, the supreme being too had to take a form of Goddess Durga to vanquish the unconquerable. And herein lies the biggest lesson our society and management world can learn - leadership qualities are gender independent!

Let’s adapt to all these life lessons from Goddess Durga, and walk on the path of righteousness to be successful.

Happy Navratri! Jai Maa Durga!
