NATIONAL WORKAHOLIC DAY | DR. GEETANJALI PAREEK

If you are a workaholic than this article is surely for you. If you don’t know that you are a workaholic or not, then here are 5 signs of being a workaholic. They are as follows:

5 Signs of Being a Workaholic

1.     When you get uneasy when you're not at work or have unfinished tasks.

2.     You prioritize work as being the most important thing in your life.

3.     You have little or no social life.

4.    You don't think you work too much. In fact, you make justifications on why you have to work.

5.    You are unhappy with lack of stability in your life because you always have work-related commitments to do.

Now that you know that you are a workaholic you can now celebrate todays 5th July National Workaholic Day. Every year on 5th July National Workaholic Day is celebrated to remind us to balance our work and home life. Work isn't everything!

A workaholic senses the urge to be busy at all times which causes complications. They might perform tasks which are not vital or are superfluous for project completion. These unnecessary tasks cause inadequacy, rather the emphasis should be on production. Workaholics may have trouble delegating or entrusting co-workers with tasks. They struggle with organizational skills due to taking on too much work at one time.

In general, workaholics tend to put work before almost everything else. This includes family, friends, and even their own health for the sake of work performance and their pursuit for perfectionism.

As a result of all this Workaholics may suffer from impaired brain and cognitive function due to lack of sleep. Apart from this, multiple areas of their lives are affected negatively. Their love life can fall apart and they can become lethargic if they don’t properly take care of themselves. On National Workaholics Day, we are reminded to make sure to care for ourselves outside of work as well!

A healthy work-life means more to our well-being than just a paycheck! Today, take some time off to relax, slow down a little bit and maybe schedule a vacation for you and your family. The solution for workaholics is to step back, regroup, and slow down a little bit.

How to Celebrate National Workaholic Day?

If you now know that you are workaholic and you want to celebrate, then here are some of the tips:

1. 1. Take a day off and do something relaxing: Many of us have been acclimatized to believe that taking a day off will harm our careers. However, sometimes take a day off just to sit at home and relax by engaging in your interests or starting a new one. Try something that allows you to express yourself creatively, such as photography, painting, cooking, or even music.

2.   2.  Create a work balance plan: This should focus on maintaining a work/life balance. It should provide a broad framework that enables maximum flexibility and balance. Your goal should be to devote time and thought to your work in proportion to other aspects of your life. Identify activities that you may do with your family and friends. While doing so, make sure that you do not bring professional tensions back home or indulge in work even when you are not in the office.

3. 3.Help others around you: Tell your workaholic relative or friend how important they are to you. Convey any mental or physical health issues with compassion and encourage him or her to pursue a more balanced life.

So in the end I would like to quote that, “All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy”. Hope it was helpful to you. So now let’s celebrate National Workaholic day.
